The Greater Ransom Way of the Cross Church of Christ, (formally the Tabernacle) of Franklinton, North Carolina, was founded by Elder Henry C. Brooks in the year 1934.
For about seven months the people would travel from house to house to have church. Brother John L Cannady gave a place in his grove to have church and turned his chicken coop in a building for meeting until the church was built. The saints decided to raise money to build a church. They worked and the Lord blessed them in 1934 to start building a church next to Wilder’s School located in Franklinton, North Carolina. In 1936 they were ready to go into the church.
In May of 1966, the cornerstone was laid for Ransom in Henderson.
Former pastors include Elder Albert Person, Bishop John L. Brooks and Elder Walker J. Foster.
In the year 1970, Bishop Johnny L. Alston was appointed pastor by Bishop John L. Brooks. God gave Bishop Alston a vision to build a temple in the city of Henderson. Land was purchased and the Greater Ransom Way of the Cross Temple was built at its present location after several years of toil and labor by Bishop Alston and the saints of the church. The first service was held in April 2000. The church was formally dedicated in August 2000.
Our motto is “To God Be the Glory.”
History of our Pastor
Bishop Johnny L. Alston was baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost under the ministry of Bishop Joseph Moore of the Bibleway Church of our Lord Jesus Christ Worldwide in Brooklyn, New York. He was called into the ministry and began to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Bishop Alston returned to Henderson, North Carolina, and founded the Whole Truth Church of Christ. Souls were added to the kingdom of God under this ministry.
In 1967, the Whole Truth Church merged with the Ransom Way of the Cross Church. In 1970, Bishop Alston was appointed pastor. Under Bishop Alston’s leadership we were blessed to build the Greater Ransom Way of the Cross Temple at its present location.
Apostle Alston serves as the presiding Bishop of the state of North Carolina Way of the Cross Churches. He is also a member of the executive board of the Way of the Cross Church of Christ., International .
